I'm tying the knot with a wonderful girl on the 10th of May. Here is some details for people traveling for the happy occasion (I'll try and keep updating this as needed.) Its from an email I sent.
======
As you know, my wedding is on the 10th of May 2010, at Kochi (also
called Cochin.)
Its a Monday, so please plan your trip early. Its holiday season, and
train tickets are already getting over. I will give you some details
about possible modes of travel.
The best way to travel to Cochin (from Bangalore/Chennai) is by train.
Buses are also an option, but Chennai-Cochin bus ride is quite
uncomfortable (at least 16 hrs.)
Bangalore-Cochin bus is better (about 10 hrs), but still train is the
best. So book tickets early.
You can plan to reach Cochin on the weekend (Sat/Sun) and do some
sightseeing around Kerala. Munnar, Kumarakom etc are all about 3 hours
from Cochin. Within Cochin itself, there are places to see, including
beaches and the old city of Fort Cochin. Veega Land, a water theme
park is also in Cochin. If you are arriving on Monday morning, you can
freshen up and come for the wedding. The wedding is at 11 AM. The
ceremony itself will take only an hour or so, and lunch follows.
There are two railway stations in Cochin: Ernakulam Junction (ERS) and
Ernakulam Town (ERN). They are about 6 kms apart, and you can get down
at either. ERN is closer to the wedding venue.
If you are coming from Chennai, two daily trains are the best option:
Trivandrum Mail (Tr no: 2623, leaves Central at 1945, reaches ERN at 0615)
Alleppey express (Tr no 6041, leaves Central 2115, reaches ERS at 0830)
There are other trains too, but these have the best timings.
From Bangalore I could find only this daily train...I will find out
from regular travelers.
Kanyaumari exp (Tr no: 6526, leaves Mejastic 2140, reaches ERN 1000 )
As I said, buses are also a good option for people coming from
Bangalore. There are KSRTC buses as well as private buses. It is
usually possible to get bus tickets a few days before the journey.
You can take the same trains back to Chennai/Bangalore.
Please try and let me know your plans in Ekm for that weekend. We are
reserving rooms in a nearby hotel where you can stay/freshen up. I
need a rough estimate of the number of people staying over to book the
rooms.
Any other details: ask me! Will send/give the wedding card when I get it.
Regards
Padmanabhan
